Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology was established in 1956 through the merger of the departments of civil engineering, architecture, and municipal engineering from the former Northeast Institute of Technology, Northwest Institute of Technology, Qingdao Institute of Technology, and Southern Jiangsu Technical College. It was a key university under the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and is one of China's renowned “Old Eight Institutes” of civil engineering and architecture. Currently, it is a joint initiative of Shaanxi Province, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. (For details, please visit:

The history of the School of Information and Control Engineering can be traced back to 1960, when Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology established its Radio Engineering program. In 1972, the electrical automation major for industrial and mining enterprises was introduced, along with the establishment of a corresponding teaching and research office. This program, together with the Mining Machinery and Construction Machinery programs, formed the Department of Electromechanical Engineering. In 1986, the automation major and the newly established computer science and technology major merged to form the Department of Automatic Control, which was renamed the School of Information and Control Engineering in 1999 (for details, visit https://xxjg.xauat.edu.cn/xysz/xxykzgcxy.htm)
